Now back to Day 4, Juneau of the cruise and the conclusion of our trip!
Truly, one of the most magnificent creatures! SO BEAUTIFUL!
A single whale breached, and looking through the viewfinder of my camera, I MISSED IT! UGH!!!!
I kept my lens focused in the general area and caught these 2 in the act! I'm sorry the pics are fuzzy, they were much farther away by this time and one of the rules is NOT to chase them.
OH FOR THAT LARGER LENS!!!
OK, so at this point, it's like REALLY?!?!?! I could just go home now, vaca complete!
We took a scenic wilderness ride into the YUKON! We saw some sheep WAAAAYYYYY far away, too far to get a pic of and this eagle. This year evidently was not a banner year for wildlife sightings.
This is Emerald lake, I wonder why they would want to name it that?!? Yes, it really was those fabulous colors!
The pretty spot above and Pitchfork Falls to the left were stops on the way back down! LESS FOG! ;)
Next on to DAY 7, and we're at sea again, but not without a trip through the Tracey arm and a peek at Sawyer Glacier!
This is another glacier we saw while on the ship. Did you know that the black streaks that run through glaciers are where 2 or more have met up and joined together?
OK, so by day 8, evidently I was completely exhausted because I don't have many pics of Victoria. We were going to check out Buchart Gardens and then opted not to, which is SO not like us and goes to show that we were not quite up to par!
ANYWAY, we took a shuttle into downtown and stumbled upon a farmers market that was really more like an artisan craft fair.
We met J. Robert Whittle, an award winning and bestselling author! He had a booth set up and is from Yorkshire England! He told us the story of how he came to live in Victoria and he was so charming I just wanted to put him in my pocket and bring him home with me! We purchased some of his books, one for me, and 2 for Ellie! He has a FB page as well as a website, www.jrobertwhittle.com and his books are available in ebooks formats as well! Mom read "Whispers Across Time" before we were done with the trip and said it would make a GREAT movie! (I still haven't read it, if you know me at all, you know that I love books, but am terrible about reading them! LOL I PROMISE to read this one and soon!)
We also had heard about Murchies, a tea company that has been in business since 1894. We literally happened to pass by and had to go in! SOOO many lovely items! I brought home 3 teas, Peppermint, Roasted Nut Brittle and Bollywood Star. My favorite? Bollywood Star! Murchies is also available online at www.murchies.com/store/ YUMMY!!!
Victoria was just BEAUTIFUL! There were hanging baskets EVERYWHERE! You can take horse drawn carriage rides, bus tours and the like! I think Mom & Stan need to come back and hang there for a few days! THANK YOU Victoria!
I decided that this should be 3 posts, not just 2, there's just too much to share! Stay tuned for the rest of the trip!
